About the English Language Resource Centre
The English Language Resource Centre was established in 2014 by Breda Matthews, MA, B.Ed, Dip TESSOL.
Breda is a facilitator and a teacher of English language learners. She has wide experience and expertise in programme design, teaching and assessing English language learners, resource creation and professional development in New Zealand.
Breda has designed and delivered face-to-face and online programmes to English language learners and is experienced in the use of a wide rage of online tools including Google Apps for Education.
Examples of resources created by Breda in association with Jenni Bedford include:
- EAP unit standards assessments: teaching and learning sequences and formative assessments
- Belonging: teaching and learning sequences, formative and summative assessments for ESOL unit standards
- Our Changing World: summative assessment tasks for ESOL unit standards
- Our Changing World: teaching and learning sequences and formative assessment tasks for ESOL unit standards
I want to thank you Jenni Bedford and Breda Matthews for the wonderful, high quality teaching resources for the EAPs. They are so thorough, useful and interesting. Not only have they saved us so much time, they have provided an excellent guideline from which we can now develop our own resources. I was busy showing some teachers from other departments in my school the units and they were astounded and very envious of the fantastic resources we have in ESOL (and now the EAPs). We agreed that providing teaching units does not mean that we will all be teaching the same thing; it means that teachers feel confident and supported. With a basis to work from we feel less pressured and have more inspiration and time to create resources on our own.
